The most convenient thing about a dishwasher is that you can put the dirty dishes in and when the cycle is done, you are able to take them right out and put them away. This convenience can really get messed with when the dishwasher is not drying the dishes. Although this problem can be irritating, there are some very common reasons that this may be happening.
The problems that we have listed for you here are problems that can be checked regardless of the brand or model of the dishwasher that you own. Our list can help you to figure out what the problem actually is or to determine if you need dishwasher repair.
THE DETERGENT DISPENSER
Make sure that there are no cracks, dents, or other damage to the detergent dispenser. You should also verify that the dispenser is opening properly. If it is damaged or malfunctioning in some way, you will notice that there may be detergent leaking before, during, or after a cycle. This is a reflection that the dispenser is not opening when it is supposed to.
THE HEATING ELEMENT
First, visually inspect the heating element to make sure that there are no outward signs of damage or malfunction. You will also want to check that the dishwasher is getting hot during the cycle and at the end. The heating element helps to heat the water in order to wash the dishes and it also aids in getting the dishes dry. If you are not feeling any heat or feeling minimal heat, check the control settings, the fuses in the heating circuit, and the wiring of the element.
THE FAN AND THE VENT
The dishwasher utilizes a fan and heat in order to dry the dishes and a vent opens in order to allow the moist, hot air to be removed from the machine. If one of these things fails to do the job that it needs to do, the hot air is going to be trapped in the machine and, thus, the dishes aren’t going to dry. It is possible that the machine is stopping mid-cycle, which is characteristic of a fan that is malfunctioning. If one (or both) of these is not working properly, you are going to want to replace that part.
THE HIGH-LIMIT THERMOSTAT
The high-limit thermostat prevents your machine from getting too hot by telling the dishwasher to stop producing heat when it reaches a certain temperature. If this part is not working, the machine will not be reaching the necessary temperature it needs to dry the dishes and the cooler temperatures are not going to dry the dishes in the way that it should.
A multimeter should be used to test the thermostat. You want to make sure that the machine is cooled down and at room temperature. Then, use the meter to make sure that the thermostat is getting the proper amount of electricity. If it isn’t, then you are going to need to have the high-limit thermostat replaced.
